Spray Tan Tips
Pre-Tan Preparation
-
To ensure a beautiful and long lasting tan, we recommend exfoliating 24 hours prior to your appointment. Salt scrubs, dry brushing, and exfoliating mitts are some of our favorite ways to prep our skin!
-
Shave 24 hours prior to your appointment. If you must shave the same day as the appointment, ensure that your razor does not have a moisturizing strip which can leave you with a streaky tan. Wax 48 hours prior to your appointment.
-
Book your mani/pedis prior to your spray tan appointment! We protect your nails during the spray tan to ensure a beautiful result. Booking a mani/pedi after your spray tan can cause an uneven tan due to the acetone, oils, soaking, and scrubbing.
-
Book treatments at least 24 prior to your tan. Chemicals, creams, and oils can cause barriers between the tanning and your skin resulting in an uneven tan.
-
Avoid using bar soaps or cream based body wash, ex. Dove & Olay products. These body washes are known for leaving residue on the skin causing streaks and uneven spray tans. Gel based body washes such as Native, Salt & Stone, and Method Body are best for spray tan prep.
Appointment Day
-
Try to shower at least 3 hours prior to a spray tan to allow your pH levels to neutralize and your pores to close. If you must shower within the 3 hours, make sure you rinse with cold water to close your pores.
-
Refrain from using deodorant, lotion, perfume, makeup, or oils on your skin.
-
Wear loose fitting clothing and open toed shoes. Skin to clothes contact is preferred over skin to skin contact. Meaning, it is better to wear a long sleeve shirt than a short sleeve shirt, to prevent your arms from coming in contact with your body.
-
If an accident occurs after the spray tan, stay calm! Grab a makeup blending brush and buff our the tan. This should help correct the issue, if in 24-48 hours it does not get better text or email us for assistance.
Après Tan Care
-
Water only for your post tan rinse. Using your hands only, wipe the bronzer off using circular motions on your body. The bronzer will wash off the body leaving the tanning ingredient (DHA) to continue to develop for the next 24 hours. Using body wash, shampoo, or conditioner, can stop the tan development process resulting in a lighter colored spray tan. If you feel you are getting too dark, showering with body wash will stop the development process.
-
Wait 24 hours after your tan to use skincare, lotions, perfume, oils, etc.
-
Drinking plenty of water and using nourishing lotions can optimize the longevity of your tan. Healthy skin is a spray tans best friend!
